It is because of Vietnam Veterans that Vet Centers exist today. These Veterans refused to be forgotten, refused to be stigmatized, and insisted on a program where they were at the center of their care. Because of their actions, generations of men and women can turn to the support and community of a Vet Center.
4STEPS Therapeutic Riding Program has provided services to veterans from the Vet Center Salisbury Outstation, a US Dept. of Veterans Affairs Readjustment Counseling Service. Alongside professional counselors, 4STEPS staff works with horses and veterans to build meaningful connections and develop tools for achieving success in both military and civilian lives.
BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP! Because the Vet Center is part of the Veterans Administration they are not permitted to participate in the solicitation of funds or grant writing, and because the cost is prohibitive, we need your help!
In the Spring of 2026, 4STEPS offered a group of Vet Center veterans to participate. The sessions were well attended and meaningful for participants. The cost for Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 EAAT sessions will incur $6000 in expenses for 20 veterans. Please consider helping to support this meaningful program. As a community we hope that your organization will help to fund our mission to continue this healing work. We would also like to invite you to attend a working session with our participating veterans. It would mean so much to them to know you have their backs!!!
Thank you for your friendship and support!!!! Sandy Winter, Director
4STEPS Heroes and Horses – How Horses Help According to U.S. Veterans Administration, working with horses reduces isolation and gives many veterans who suffer from negative feelings a sense of hope and a reason to thrive.
4STEPS HORSEPOWER program offers equine-assisted services (EAAT) for veterans who have difficulties functioning in traditional educational and social settings. Horses are incredible educators, they teach participants as much if not more about themselves without criticism or judgement.
