One of the activities that Camp Coordinator and Coastal Hospice Bereavement and Grief Support Services Team Leader, Joel Beiler, loves is when each kid gets to lift weights (barbells and small hand weights) and can do the first steps on their own but as we add weight to the barbells, it becomes too heavy for them to lift on their own. We then ask the question, "What resources do you have around you that could help you lift this weight?" They look around and realize they have other kids that could help them, and they ask friends to step up and help them lift the weight too heavy for them to lift on their own. We then remind them that it is the same with grief and loss...some of the weight and sadness we can deal with on our own...some of it though, we need the help of friends to help get us through...it is not wrong to ask for support and help from others!
