The Fruitlland Community Center has been a place where children and youth come for Education and Enrichment programs since 1985. This is the 40th year that a free Tutorial program founded by retired wicomico Educator, Mrs. Mary Gladys Jones.(1919-2025). After she retired in 1982, parents asked her to tutor their children. She did not want her home to become a classrom.  Mrs. Jones was a former teacher at the Fruitland Community Center when it was an elementary school for grades 1 -7 in the nineteen fifties.

The program Mrs. Jones  founded is still providing  a space for education and enrichment programs.  Mrs.Jones learned  along with the students when Technology was included in the afterschool program during October, 2011. The programs are still free for At- Risk children and families who participate in the Fruitland Community Center STEM program provived by our STEM partners.

With your support,  Girl Scouts, Scouting USA, Wicomico Extension - 4-H, Wicomico County FIRST Lego League and Virginia Space Flight Academy so learning during "Out Of School Time." can continueto educate and foster the next generation of STEM workforce into the next decade!  The message is from one of the students who want to be an engineer!
