Worcester County Library Foundation

A nonprofit organization

The Worcester County Library Foundation, Inc. is a not-for-profit, tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) organization which exists to support and enhance library service across our diverse communities. With your help and generosity, the Foundation will strengthen the Library’s collections, programming, services, resources, and reach; build and furnish new and revitalized libraries; and obtain technologies and digital resources. Our current funding priorities are:

  • The new Pocomoke Library is currently under construction, with a projected opening date in late Spring 2026. The new building will bring abundant resources, services, and programming to the community and enhance quality of life for the Pocomoke community.  The Foundation is raising funds to build a children's porch to expand programming space and help purchase books, furniture, and equipment for the new branch.

  • The Pop-Up Library - the Library's mobile outreach vehicle travels across the County bringing materials and offering programs for youth, adults, and seniors.  Our Pop-Up Library makes sure that library services are offered to everyone, especially those who cannot easily visit one of our branches.

  • Summer Reading - The annual summer reading program is a wonderful way for children to maintain and increase their reading skills during their critical development years and beyond.  Without summer learning, young readers can lose up to 20% of skills gained during the academic year—a “summer slide” that hits underserved students hardest and leaves them less prepared for fall.

Public libraries can change lives and the Foundation is proud to support the important work of the Worcester County Library.  Thank you!

Needs

Children's Porch for the New Pocomoke Library.

The Worcester County Library Foundation has exciting news to share. The Philip A. Zaffere Foundation is providing a matching grant up to $50,000 to help fund the Children's Porch at the new Pocomoke Library. We are incredibly grateful to the Zaffere Foundation for their generosity. With the new library set to open in late Spring 2026, this opportunity will allow donations to go twice as far.

The Children's Porch will be used for dynamic, engaging outdoor learning activities like story times, music events, art programs, and a space for children and families to read and play.

We are very fortunate that this matching grant came during this critical phase of the building project. Every contribution will help make the new library a special place that will be enjoyed by the Pocomoke community for generations to come.
