Somerset County Historical Trust

The Somerset County Historical Trust was created in 1969 as a county advisory organization under the Maryland Historical Trust. We have participated in various state and federal preservation programs, and advise and assist local preservationists in individual projects. Our legal incorporation allows us to receive and purchase properties and to administer financial gifts in the interest of historic preservation.

Since 1983 the Trust has administered over three quarters of a million dollars in grants, loans and matches for preservation work and has assisted other nonprofit groups on the Lower Eastern Shore. 

The Trust has also nominated hundreds of sites, districts, and houses to the National Register of Historic Places, thereby providing a measure of protection to these valuable resources.
