Salisbury Urban Ministries

During the past 9 months, 3,517 individuals were served through SUM's programs. God's Kitchen and the Food Pantries have seen a significant increase in the requests for food assistance.

Kid's Café:  Provides a safe learning environment for elementary-age children. Children participating in the afterschool and summer programs receive healthy snacks each program day, meal bags during school breaks, homework assistance, one-on-one tutoring, Bible lessons, creative craft projects, field trips, opportunities for community engagement and attended the YMCA day camp during the month of July. 

God's Kitchen: A community outreach program hosted by Grace Church addresses the need for meals for  impoverished individuals and families.  Fifty-two organizations take turns hosting lunch at Grace Church on Saturdays. God’s Kitchen serves approximately 150 meals each Saturday.

Lazarus Food Pantries: Provide food assistance to economically deprived citizens. The pantries are located in Salisbury, Pittsville, and Willards Maryland. Due to the increase cost of food, SNAP benefits delay, and government furloughs, our pantry has seen a 230% increase in request for food assistance since August 2025.

Men's Welcome Center: SUM's partnerships with Joshua House Ministries, the City of Salisbury's HOT, HealthPort,  and the SWIFT Team enable us to provide outreach services to homeless men including clothing, personal hygiene items, and food bags.  

Prescription Assistance: Provides assistance with prescription medication costs for economically deprived residents in Wicomico, Somerset, and Worcester counties. Due to the reduction of requests the program is being phased out by December 2026.
