Main Street Gym Inc

Main Street Gym a 501 3 C is dedicated to building the underserved and at-risk youth of today into quality members of our community. Its program is based around physical training and educational opportunities encouraging our youth to embrace discipline, responsibility, and a desire to connect with others in a positive way.

Main Street Gym was established in 1993 when Hal Chernoff and Don Hall combined forces to build the area’s first youth-oriented boxing program. They spent evenings and weekends converting the old Trailway’s Bus Terminal into a training. It was a small building and still rough on the inside, but it served the members.  In 2007, Dan Burt of D.W. Burt Concrete Construction, Inc. decided that Main Street Gym needed its own building. Land was donated through the generosity of D.W. Burt Concrete Construction and Gillis Gilkerson.  Mr. Burt also donated a new 10,000 sq. ft. building. Other community partners donated in-kind serves and funds. Today from our state-of-the-art facility on 310 Bowl Dr. Salisbury, we serve at-risk youth through our Amateur Boxing and our Out of School Learning program that provides free on site tutoring,  guest speakers and field trips to colleges and other educational venues. 

Main Street Gym is a member of the USA Amateur Boxing Federation. We emphasize a structured curriculum that prioritizes safety through both mental preparation and environmental control.   All of our equipment meets or exceeds USA Boxing standards and approval and all of our coaches and assistant coaches are USA Boxing certified.
