Girls on the Run of the Greater Chesapeake

A nonprofit organization

Girls on the Run of the Greater Chesapeake (GOTRGC) inspires girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum integrating social-emotional learning, life skills, and physical activity to enhance girls’ social, psychological and wellbeing. GOTRGC serves girls aged 8-13, in 13 counties in Maryland including Wicomico, Worcester and Somerset counties. Since 2005, GOTRGC has positively impacted over 25,000 girls.

GOTRGC improves the well-being of all girls across the Greater Chesapeake region through our physical activity based positive youth development (PA-PYD) program. Dynamic lessons instill valuable life skills, including the important connection between physical and emotional health, allowing GOTR to make a stronger impact than organized sports and physical education in teaching life skills like managing emotions, resolving conflict, helping others, and making intentional decisions with lasting impact in our community through positive social, emotional, and physical health outcomes.

Trained coaches foster a safe, caring environment and deliver the program across 100+ school and community center sites. Positive health outcomes extend to caregivers, coaches, and the community, with engaging activities that support participants.

Programming culminates with participants positively impacting the community through a service project and completing a celebratory, non-competitive 5K, by which girls apply the life skills learned in the program and gain a critical sense of confidence through accomplishment.

GOTRGC remains steadfast in serving our whole community and removes barriers to participation, financial and otherwise. With focus on effort and personal improvement, participants of all abilities build their emotional and physical capacity.  We provide 70% of participants with financial assistance to ensure access.

We offer a fall and spring season and look forward to empowering more girls through school and community sites. We hope you'll join us in inspiring the next generation.
