Friends of Assateague State Park was formed and designated as a nonprofit in the year 2000 to support Assateague State Park. FOASP continues to be an organization of volunteers without paid staff. All donations, including the cash dropped in donation boxes in the Nature Center, Ranger Station and at Tie Dye Tuesday or donations made to Friends of Assateague State Park in memory of a loved one, stay within the park and can be used to support Bike Safety, Beach Safety, the Break the Habit horse safety program, Beach Toy and Book lending boxes, Beach Wheelchairs, and many other needs that occur within the park.
A one year membership to FOASP will be given for any donation amount $10 or over. Or membership can be obtained by contacting Friends of Assateague State Park at FOASPmembers@gmail.com. An annual membership provides the member with 4 email newsletters per year. Local organizations and businesses are encouraged to join also.
Members will receive information about the annual Spring Clean-up in the Assateague State Park campground through the newsletter. A Friday and Saturday campsite is provided in exchange for volunteer help getting the campground in shape for the park opening in April.
