Diakonia is a 501c3 non-profit organization providing homeless solutions for over 50 years on the Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland. By providing physical and financial assistance to those at risk, Diakonia provides hope for those who wish to be part of their recovery process.

Diakonia provides:

1. Mobile Outreach to street homeless, tent encampments, and those identified by law enforcement or concerned community members in the tri-county area; in order to provide immediate physical refreshment, offer of emergency shelter, and referrals for higher levels of care (medical, mental health, and substance use).

2. Emergency Shelter at a 55+bed home in Ocean City, for men, women, and families. Care provides all necessary supplies, bed, limited storage, access to laundry services, thrift store clothing, 3 meals/day, and intensive case management with discharge planning. Every new resident receives a Mental Health Assessment within the first week, and is offered on-site therapy during their stay. Diakonia works with partnering agencies on renewing official documents, gaining employment, applying for benefits, and searches for housing.

3. Rapid Rehousing is a program that helps those who are homeless, or in emergency shelter, to get back into housing as soon as possible. This includes help with housing searches, application fees, security deposits, and monthly rent while intensive case management continues. Diakonia provides landlord mediation for those in its program when it comes to background checks, rental history, credit history, etc. as well as when tenant and landlord relations become strained.

4. Veteran Supportive Services are available to eligible US Veterans who are in danger of, or have become homeless. This entails a long list of services, including but not limited to: Intensive Case Management, Healthcare Navigation, Housing Services, Transportation, and Employment access.

5. Food Pantry open 24/7, 365 days per year. Diakonia provides food for over 7000 individuals annually. Case Managers assist with SNAP applications and navigating eligibility criteria. Those in Diakonia's programs who have no address can receive their official mail at our location.
